According to CTOnews.com news on November 27, Huawei and Sharp announced today that they will sign a new long-term global patent cross-license agreement. The protocol covers the necessary patents of cellular standards, including 4G and 5G.

Fan Zhiyong, head of Huawei's intellectual property rights department, said: "Huawei is very happy to reach this new license agreement with Sharp through friendly exchanges."

"the license agreement reflects the mutual recognition of intellectual property rights between the two companies as standard contributors and promotes the cooperation of standardization. We have always been committed to developing technical standards with our Japanese and global counterparts, and will continue to cooperate with our counterparts in the future. Advanced technical standards can enhance user experience, promote competition, and reduce the cost of equipment and services." Fan Zhiyong added.

"We are pleased to have reached this global patent cross-licensing agreement with Huawei on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms," said Mototaka Taneya, chief technology officer and head of research and development at Sharp. "the agreement reflects the respect of both sides for each other's high-value intellectual property rights."

According to previous reports from CTOnews.com, Huawei has reached patent cross-licensing agreements with Xiaomi, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and OPPO.
