CTOnews.com, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) the world's largest iceberg is starting to move after being trapped for more than 30 years. The iceberg, called A23a, split from the Antarctic coastline in 1986, but it soon ran aground in the Weddell Sea and basically became an Iceland.

Photo Source: BBCCTOnews.com Note: the A23a iceberg covers an area of 4000 square kilometers (1500 square miles), more than twice the size of the City of London. The iceberg is 400m thick and the London debris Tower (London Shard), Europe's tallest skyscraper, is only 310m high.

Scientists say the iceberg has been moving at a very slow pace since 2020 and is now moving faster than Antarctic waters, which could have an impact on maritime transport in southern Africa.
