CTOnews.com, Nov. 25 (Xinhua)-- Amazon employees have gone on strike at several locations in Europe to protest against the way they worked during Black five, Reuters reported.

The Make Amazon Pay campaign, coordinated by the UNI Global Alliance, says strikes and protests will take place in more than 30 countries from Black Friday to Monday.

Germany was Amazon's second-largest market by sales last year, and the union Verdi estimates that about 2000 workers went on strike at six Amazon operations centers in Germany.

It is said that 500 workers in a warehouse in Rhineberg went on strike, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of the workforce, while about 250 workers in a warehouse in Leipzig went on strike, accounting for about 20 per cent of the workforce.

An Amazon spokesman in Germany said that only a small number of workers took part in the strike, with reasonable wages and a starting salary of more than 14 euros per hour (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 109 yuan).

In the UK, more than 200 workers have gone on strike at Amazon's warehouse in Coventry, with a long-running wage dispute as part of the cause. The warehouse, Amazon's logistics hub, handles products and sends them to other warehouses, and warehouse worker Nick Henderson (Nick Henderson) says he is on strike, demanding higher wages and better working conditions.

The strikers are demanding a pay rise of 15 pounds an hour (currently about 135 yuan).

An Amazon UK spokesman said the minimum starting salary is 11.80-13 pounds an hour, depending on the location, and will increase to 12.30-13 pounds an hour from April 2024.

In Italy, the union CGIL said more than 60 per cent of workers at the Amazon warehouse in Castel San Giovanni had gone on strike, while Amazon said more than 86 per cent had gone to work and its operations had not been affected.

The Spanish union CCOO has called on Amazon warehouse and delivery workers to hold an one-hour strike on Cyber Monday next week.

Amazon parcel lockers used to receive orders have been covered with posters and roadblock tape, and 40 lockers across the country have been targeted, according to Attac, the group behind the protest.
