CTOnews.com, Nov. 23 (Xinhua)-- on the eve of Thanksgiving, Stellantis recalled some of the Jeep Wrangler's 4xe plug-in hybrid models and reminded owners not to recharge or park near buildings or other vehicles.

Automaker Stellantis recalled more than 45000 2021-2024 Wrangler 4xe models in overseas markets on the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday due to potential battery problems, including 32125 in the United States, 3856 in Canada and 9249 in other countries and regions.

The company says there have been eight vehicle fires caused by the problem. The vehicles were parked at the time of the fire, and six of them were charging.

Stellantis said that the affected Jeep Wrangler 4xe model can still drive normally during this period, but should follow the above warning, avoid charging, and maintain some space when parking.

Car owners need to make an appointment with a dealer for repairs, and the dealer brushes the vehicles with diagnostic software to determine whether they belong to 1% of the recalled group (about 300 vehicles). Stellantis suspects that these vehicles are defective and needs to be replaced with new battery packs.

Stellantis confirmed that the recall had nothing to do with last year's recalls of some 2023 and 2023 Wrangler 4xe models due to battery fuse assembly problems that could lead to overheating.

A larger batch of Wrangler 4xe models were recalled in November 2022 because of a problem that could cause the hybrid system to go into fail-safe mode and the engine to stop.

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the horseman 4xe can drive 22 miles in pure electric mode. (CTOnews.com Note: about 35.41km).
