CTOnews.com, Nov. 22-Neuralink is still recruiting patients for its human clinical trial, called the PRIME study. PRIME is the abbreviation of precision robot implanted brain-computer interface (Precise Robotically Implanted Brain-Computer Interface). Neuralink's PRIME research will test the company's brain-computer interface (BCI) and evaluate the company's N1 implants and R1 surgical robots.

The R1 surgical robot enables Neuralink to place its N1 implant in an area of the brain that controls movement. N1 implants enable paralyzed people to use their minds to control external devices, such as mobile phones or computers.

The following are Neuralink's eligibility requirements for patients who want to participate in its PRIME study:

A person whose limb function is limited (paralyzed) due to spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and at least 1 year after injury (no improvement)

Participants must be at least 22 years old

Participants must have a consistent and reliable nursing staff

Neuralink does not accept the following people to participate in PRIME studies:

Patients with active implant devices (pacemakers, deep brain stimulators (DBS), etc.)

Individuals with a history of epilepsy

People who need MRI because of long-term illness

People who receive transcranial magnetic therapy

CTOnews.com notes that the PRIME study will last for about six years, so individuals who want to participate in human clinical trials of Neuralink must be prepared for long-term commitment. The trial is divided into two parts, and the main study will last about 18 months, including nine home and face-to-face outpatient visits. Neuralink PRIME study patients must be prepared to attend one-hour BCI study meetings at least twice a week. After 18 months of major studies, patients with Neuralink will enter the long-term follow-up phase of human clinical trials. This phase lasted for more than five years, with a total of 20 visits.
