CTOnews.com, Nov. 22 (Xinhua)-- A group of non-fiction writers recently filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Microsoft, accusing the two companies of using their books and academic journals without permission and without compensation when training their large language models.
In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs claimed that they spent years "conceiving, researching and writing their work", while OpenAI and Microsoft refused to pay for the use of human common work to build a "tens of billions of dollars worth of business" without the author's permission. The two companies pretended that copyright laws did not exist and "made huge economic gains from the use of copyrighted materials," the lawsuit said.
CTOnews.com noted that earlier this year, some writers, writers and even actors sued OpenAI for the same reason. OpenAI has previously said that the content generated by its ChatGPT does not constitute a "derivative work" and therefore does not infringe any copyright.
