CTOnews.com, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) Samsung recently conducted a health study that analyzed sleep data for 716 million nights, revealing the sleep quality of British consumers.

The study found that the UK is a country with trouble sleeping, with more than 1/5 (22 per cent) of adults admitting that they accidentally fall asleep at work. Britain has the lowest sleep efficiency in Europe. The study divided people into eight types according to the length and quality of their sleep, assigned them a "sleep animal" and used Galaxy Watch 6 to track people's sleep.

CTOnews.com noted that according to Samsung's 2023 Global Sleep Health study, the most common sleep animals in the UK are "nervous penguins". This type of person maintains a circadian rhythm, but is often interrupted during sleep, reducing their sleep efficiency. The study also revealed that people fell asleep in cinemas (29%), clubs (12%) and even toilets (10%).

So what is the reason for this? More than 45 per cent of people in the study admitted that they stayed up too late, with adults going to bed at 11:54 on average. More than 32% of people said too much work prevented them from getting enough sleep, while 25% believed that eating too much was the reason for their poor sleep habits. Even globally, people's average sleep time has fallen from 7 hours and 3 minutes to 6 hours and 59 minutes, less than the recommended seven hours.

The good news is that the number of people who actively track sleep each week increased by 182% in 2023 compared with 2021. People now know that they have sleep problems, with more than 43% trying to avoid caffeine and 17% taking sleep drugs. However, only 12% of people use smartwatches to monitor their sleep quality.
