CTOnews.com, November 22 (Xinhua) according to a recent report released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, global smartphone sales rose 5% year-on-year in October 2023, the first positive year-on-year growth since June 2021, ending 27 consecutive months of year-on-year decline.

The report says global smartphone sales have been under pressure over the past two years due to parts shortages, increased inventories and extended replacement cycles, as well as an uncertain macroeconomic environment.

The year-on-year growth in October was part of a sustained recovery in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region and Huawei's return to the Chinese market, which far exceeded its weight and accounted for the largest share of the world's monthly gains.

The agency had previously reported that China's smartphone market was recovering, with sales growing by an average of 11 per cent in the first four weeks of October, with Huawei growing the most.

"Huawei's growth trend was obvious in October, especially the Mate 60 series of devices attracted a lot of consumer attention and purchases," said analyst Archie Zhang. Huawei's growth is excellent with new marketing and strong media coverage of 'made in China'. Huawei's equipment demand continues to maintain double-digit growth, and the halo effect has boosted sales of related products.

Another growth factor is the late release of the iPhone 15 series compared with last year. This year's one-week delay means that the full impact of new iPhone sales will be felt in October.

The agency predicts that after strong growth in October, mobile airports will also grow year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2023 and embark on a gradual recovery in the coming quarters.
