Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, November 21, the World News Photography Competition (World Press Photo Contest) changed its entry rules to exclude entries for AI-generated images a few days after it announced that it would allow images generated by AI to participate in its Open format (Open Format) competition category.
CTOnews.com noted that the World Press Photography Foundation (World Press Photo Foundation) initially welcomed the submission of images generated by AI, but this decision immediately met with strong opposition from news photographers, who believed that allowing images created by artificial intelligence to participate in a competition for news photographers documenting real-world events was "contrary to what our industry is doing".
The foundation subsequently withdrew its new AI submission guidelines and updated the competition rules to exclude images generated by AI from its open format category. "thanks to the honest and thoughtful feedback over the past few days, we have decided to change the rules of the open format category in our competition to exclude images generated by AI," the foundation said in a statement posted on its website on Monday. Both generative fill and fully generated images (fully generated images) will be banned from competing in open format categories (just like other categories, including: singles, stories, and long-term projects). "
The image processing rules for photos taken by lens-based cameras have also been updated to explain more clearly what artificial intelligence generates images. Examples of denoising, automatic adjustment (e.g., levels, color, contrast) and object selection are listed as acceptable AI editing tools, to the extent determined by the competition organization and the global jury. Tools based on generative AI models that introduce new information to enlarge and sharpen images, such as Adobe Super Resolution and Topaz Photo AI, are not allowed.
To help clarify what photographs are in the age of AI, WRF has also developed a set of "clear ethical standards" with news photographers, visual journalists and editors interested in and expertise in the subject, aimed at ensuring that photographs are produced "in a fair and accurate representation of what the photographer witnessed" and not in a misleading manner.
