CTOnews.com, November 21, according to the official news of China Telecom, recently, the 6G Research Center of China Telecom Research Institute, in conjunction with vivo, completed the industry's first AI mobility enhancement test and verification based on the existing network environment.

According to reports, this experiment uses the terminal prototype and AI model algorithm independently developed by the research team to successfully verify the feasibility and performance of wireless air port using AI for mobility optimization.

The experimental results show that, compared with the existing algorithms, the innovative AI mobility enhancement algorithm can reduce handoff abnormal events (ping-pong handoff and short stay) by more than 94%, and significantly reduce the signaling interaction and terminal energy consumption of wireless empty ports in high-speed scenarios.

CTOnews.com Note: ping-pong handover refers to the phenomenon that mobile phones switch many times in a relatively short period of time in the service community and adjacent areas. Continuous switching can lead to a decline in the network experience and unclear voice quality.

China Telecom said that the experiment was based on complex data collected by hundreds of base stations along Beijing Expressway, and constructed a small-area-level AI mobility model through regional data cleaning and processing, solved the problem of frequent handover abnormal events in high-speed scenarios, and achieved a breakthrough in multi-cell measurement signal prediction based on AI.

At present, the industry generally supports the research of wireless empty port AI mobility enhancement technology in 3GPP Rel-19, and is expected to be incorporated into the 6G international standard as a potential candidate for 6G.
