The most commonly used programming languages of the past seven years and the adoption potential in 2024: the popularity of JavaScript has declined slightly, and the top three languages have remained unchanged over the past three years, but the share of JavaScript has been declining. Rust is the only common language that has set a new record in popularity this year. Trend in software developer pay: Scala, Go and Kotlin developers were among the top three highest paid categories in 2023. Gender distribution in the technology industry over the past three years: survey data have shown that the proportion of female developers has not improved since 2021. Only 5% of developers are women, indicating a huge gender gap in the industry.

The complex landscape of generative AI services: 77% of developers use ChatGPT chat assistants and 46% of developers use GitHub Copilot programming assistants. The most common way for developers to use AI assistants is to use natural language to ask general questions about software development.
