CTOnews.com, Nov. 21 (Xinhua)-- earlier this month, Humane officially launched its first screen-less wearable device, the Ai Pin, a miniature projection placed on clothing that can interact on the palm of the hand in order to "replace the phone."

A few days ago, foreign media xda-developers belittled Ai Pin, saying that the wearable device was "over-hyped" and "doomed to failure from the very beginning". The criticism mainly focused on "unreasonable pricing", "inconvenient actual use", "functions can not replace mobile phones" and so on.

Foreign media think that Ai Pin's settlement strategy is "quite interesting." the device sells for $699 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 5096 yuan) and requires an additional $24 monthly subscription fee (currently about 175 yuan for cellular network data and AI model usage fees, which cannot be used without paying subscription fees). It is unreasonable that Humane not only wants to make fast money, but also wants to slowly "harvest" users' wallets in the future.

In terms of function, Ai Pin's laser projection display only has monochromatic display, can not present pictures, audio and other information, basically bid farewell to the social platform, with mediocre projection technology and rely on gesture operations, Humane AI Pin looks like a "difficult smart bracelet", there is no way to "replace the mobile phone".

In addition, the artificial intelligence assistants on Ai Pin have significant hallucination problems, even in the developer's own case.

For example, ask Ai Pin, "when is the next solar eclipse and where is the best place to see it?" Ai Pin responded that "the next lunar eclipse will be in April 2024, and Exmouth in Australia or East Timor will be the best place to watch solar and lunar eclipses", but there is no solar eclipse at all in Australia.

According to foreign media, all this makes Humane AI Pin look more like a digital peripheral with a circle of money. it has a meaningless pricing model, a use case that cannot replace existing equipment, and does not get things done at all.

While we may wear similar AI wearables in a few years' time, it is more likely that the current Humane AI Pin will be added to the "startup failure list" of former Apple employees.

As the saying goes, Ai Pin will win, but Humane's Ai Pin may not win. It will take time to find out.
