CTOnews.com, Nov. 21 (Xinhua)-- NASA today released a blog post sharing new images of the center of the Milky way taken by the James James Webb Space Telescope to help astronomers learn more about the Milky way.

A large patch of ionized hydrogen, shown in cyan, is wrapped in an infrared dark cloud that is so dense that it blocks light from distant stars behind it. The interesting needle-like structure in ionized hydrogen emission lacks any uniform direction. The researchers noted the surprising extent of the ionized region, which spans about 25 light-years.

Weber's team explained that this is a particularly dense area of space, and the new photos show it in unprecedented detail.

Professor Jonathan Tan explained in a post detailing the images: "the center of the Milky way is the most extreme environment in our galaxy."
