CTOnews.com, Nov. 20-OpenAI's board fired CEO Sam Altman on Friday and said he had "lost confidence in his continued leadership of OpenAI." Satya Satya Nadella, Microsoft's chief executive, announced today that Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman will join Microsoft to lead its new advanced artificial intelligence research team. Nadella said on the X platform that Altman would be the chief executive of the new team.

On X, Altman forwarded Nadella's post, confirming his joining Microsoft and writing, "the mission continues." Nadella replied to Altman, revealing some of his thoughts on Altman's new chief executive role at Microsoft, saying: "over the years, we have learned a lot about how to provide space for founders and innovators to build independent identities and cultures within Microsoft, including GitHub,Mojang Studios and LinkedIn, and I look forward to you doing the same."

It is worth mentioning that Microsoft usually only assigns the title of CEO to the leaders of independent or large businesses within the company. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, was recently appointed CEO of Microsoft Games, and Microsoft also uses or continues to use the CEO position to manage some of the companies it has acquired, including GitHub,LinkedIn,Mojang and Activision Blizzard, suggesting that Microsoft has bigger plans for its new advanced artificial intelligence research team.

Brockmann also revealed that Microsoft's new team will also include some key OpenAI talent. Jakub Pachocki, OpenAI's research director, will join an undisclosed leadership position in Microsoft's senior artificial intelligence research team. Szymon Sidor, a research scientist at OpenAI, and Aleksander Madry, head of the preparatory team, will also join Microsoft's leadership positions. Many OpenAI employees also posted on X that "OpenAI is nothing without employees", implying that more people will resign.

CTOnews.com noted that Altman's hiring came hours after negotiations with OpenAI's board failed, and OpenAI's board refused to resign or allow him to return as chief executive of OpenAI.
