On Thursday night local time, Sam received a text message from chief scientist Ilya Saskville (Ilya Sutskever) asking for a conversation at noon on Friday. Sam attended a Google Meet meeting and the whole board of directors was present except Greg. Elijah told Sam that he would be fired, and the news would soon get out.

At 12:19 local time, Greg received a text message from Elijah asking for a quick call back.

At 12:23 local time, Ilya sent a Google Meet link. Greg was told that he would be removed from the board (but he was vital to the company and would retain his position) and that Sam had been fired. At about the same time, OpenAI published a blog post.
