Lee Jae-yong was indicted by prosecutors in September 2020 on suspicion of driving up the share price of First Woolen Textile, depressing the share price of Samsung Property and strengthening its influence within the group during the merger of First Woolen Textile and Samsung Property under Samsung Group. Later, prosecutors also filed another lawsuit against Lee Jae-yong on suspicion that Samsung biological agents arbitrarily changed accounting standards in 2015 and inflated the company's market value by 4.5 trillion won (about 25.2 billion yuan).

Li Zairong is the actual leader of South Korea's largest chaebol Samsung Group. He was sentenced to five years in prison in the first instance on suspicion of bribing former President park geun-hye, but was commuted to two years and six months in the second instance one year later, suspended for four years and released in court. Lee Jae-yong served a total of 18 months in prison from 2017 to 2021. He was paroled in 2021 and pardoned in 2022.

The improper merger and accounting fraud case is another major charge he faces, and if convicted, he could go to prison again. The court is expected to deliver its final verdict in the case within one to two months.
