Among them, Tianzhou 7 and Tianzhou 8 cargo spacecraft will be docked at the rear port of the core module, which will be mainly used for upstream astronaut resident materials, extravehicular services and other extravehicular consumption materials, maintenance spare parts and propellants to ensure the safe operation of the platform, various loads and samples for application missions, and downward on-orbit waste.

The Tianzhou-7 cargo spacecraft, the seventh mission of the Tianzhou series of cargo ships, is expected to be launched in January 2024. The Tianzhou 7 cargo ship is the second of a new batch of six ships since Tianzhou 6.

Officials said that although there is only one Tianzhou cargo spacecraft mission this year, the space station has sufficient supplies at present, which can not only support normal astronaut residence, platform maintenance and upgrading, and large-scale in-orbit testing missions, but also support astronauts to stay for an additional three months in case of emergency.

He said that there are two main reasons for arranging only one cargo spacecraft mission this year: first, the carrying capacity of cargo spacecraft has been improved. In the past, cargo ships used standard cargo cabins, starting from Tianzhou VI. The improved cargo pods were used, and the loading space increased by about 24%, and the loading weight increased by about 22%.
