CTOnews.com November 18, Microsoft announced that it will open the Windows Terminal AI experience to the open source community. Developers can try out many of the new features provided by AI for free and can submit feedback to Microsoft to improve the experience.

Microsoft has launched the Terminal Chat feature in the Windows Terminal of Canary Channel, which allows users to help find commands or explain errors by chatting with AI. The AI service does not come with its own large language model, so users need to provide their own large language model.

Microsoft developer Christopher Nguyen said in the announcement: "this feature does not come with its own large language model. Currently, users need to provide their Azure OpenAI service endpoints and keys to use Terminal Chat features."

CTOnews.com reported in May that the Terminal Chat feature can recommend commands, explain errors, and help users take follow-up actions through natural language.

Microsoft launched Windows Terminal at the Build developer Conference in 2019, becoming the official popular modification tool for the Win10 platform, and was integrated into the default command line management tool for Win11 last year.

Microsoft continues to enhance Windows Terminal, on the basis of optimizing regular functions, continue to integrate GitHub Copilot AI, giving it more development tools such as WinDbg. WinDbg is a popular tool for IT administrators to resolve blue screen panic (BSOD) errors by analyzing the ability of memory dumps generated by Windows.
