CTOnews.com, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) according to a September survey by analyst firm Pew Research Center, mobile platform is now the most commonly used device for Americans to learn about news and information.

CTOnews.com learned from the Pew Research Center disclosure report that US users typically get news from news websites and software (29%), followed by search engine information flows (27%), social media platforms ranked third (19%) and podcasts ranked fourth (9%).

It is reported that since 2020, the proportion of Americans reading news through mobile platforms has been higher than that of television, radio and print media, while in 2023, 56% of Americans have regularly used mobile platform devices to read news, outpacing 32% of television, 16% of radio, and the declining print media (9%).

It is worth noting that although mobile platforms have continued to lead other media in recent years, print media still have a fixed audience, which has remained between 8% and 10% over the past few years, while radio stations have remained at around 15%.

Among social media platforms, applications such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok are the most popular among Americans, with Facebook (30%), YouTube (26%) and Instagram (16%). TikTok ranks fourth (14%) and is the fastest growing social media platform, while platform X ranks fifth with 12%.

The survey also points out that more and more Americans watch news through TikTok, rising rapidly from 3 per cent in 2020 to 14 per cent this year, making it the fastest-growing social media news platform in recent years.
