Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Wu Fei brother's left hand clue delivery! Update: Apple clarifies RCS messages still display green bubbles, iMessage displays blue bubbles to distinguish.

CTOnews.com Under years of lobbying, user and media pressure from Google, an Apple spokesperson recently confirmed to TechRadar and 9to5Mac that it will adapt to support Rich Communications Services/Converged Communications (RCS) standards next year.

CTOnews.com translated Apple's statement as follows:

Later next year we will add support for RCS Common Profile, which is currently published by the GSM Association.

We believe RCS common profiles will provide a better interoperability experience than SMS or MMS.

We believe RCS and iMessage, when used together, will continue to provide Apple users with the best and most secure messaging experience.

iMessage will continue to be the default method of iPhone to iPhone communication, and RCS will replace existing SMS and MMS standards. However, SMS and MMS can still be used as an alternative if necessary.

RCS is a new generation of international standard for message service. The new generation of information service platform built by telecom operators can make "information is platform, user is customer, mobile phone is application" become reality.

With the native SMS button on the smartphone as the entrance, 5G messages support users to use a variety of rich media messages such as graphics, audio and video, Group chats, file transmission, content sharing during calls, etc., and one-stop business experiences such as search, interaction, sharing and payment can be realized in the message window.

For us who are used to using WeChat, green chat bubbles have long been the default choice. But in America, where iMessage is popular, the color of chat bubbles has become a source of anxiety.

Simply put, on Apple devices, blue chat bubbles in messages indicate that both parties are using Apple devices, while green chat bubbles indicate that the other party is using non-Apple devices_most likely Android phones. Green bubbles mean you can't use the iPhone's rich variety of messaging features with your partner, even sharing HD photos and participating in Group chats.

Earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal ran an article about teenagers being afraid of green chat bubbles. Then came growing attention to the "green bubble bullying" that American teenagers are experiencing. Can't join classmates 'Group chats and get excluded, can't use iMessage's fun function in dating and get ridiculed... Singer Drake even inspired a song Texts Go Green (text turns green).
