Steps Recorder is an Windows 7-era application that is mainly used to help users solve problems on their devices by recording screens. Users can send recorded videos to the technical support team so that they can diagnose the problem. The news was quietly confirmed in a quality update support document from Microsoft.

As part of reducing redundant software in Windows, Microsoft plans to remove Steps Recorder applications in future versions of Windows. The company said the application was no longer updated and advised users to use more modern applications, such as web-based Clipchamp, Snipping Tool or Game Bar.

CTOnews.com noted that Microsoft wrote in the document: "Steps Recorder is no longer updated and will be removed in future versions of Windows. For screen recording, we recommend Snipping Tool, Xbox Game Bar or Microsoft Clipchamp."

Some users still use Steps Recorder to solve problems on Windows, thinking the tool is very simple and portable, although there are some minor problems when recording a sequence of command prompts.

With the disappearance of Steps Recorder, users can use Microsoft's native screen recording tools, such as Game Bar, Snipping Tool and Clipchamp, or third-party open source alternatives such as OBS.

In addition to Steps Recorder, Microsoft plans to remove several older applications and services in the coming months. This includes the unpopular "Tips" application, which has been deprecated.
