China Mobile said that the current 50G PON technical standard system has been initially established, and industrialization also faces system-level technical challenges such as 50G high-speed burst, high-power budget and other core optoelectronic devices, as well as low delay. Through the cooperation with the industry to continuously tackle the most challenging key technologies of the 50G symmetric system, China Mobile has demonstrated that the results of the current network demonstration of the technical solution are all in line with expectations, laying the core technical foundation for the industrialization of 50G PON.

Except that the terminal equipment needs electricity, the nodes between them are composed of delicate and compact optical fiber components.

According to reports, as an important milestone in the industrialization of 50G PON, the successful test of the current network has been verified around the core competence of the symmetrical 50G PON scheme, and a series of landmark results have been achieved:

First, large bandwidth capacity 50G PON uplink and downlink carrying service rates can reach 40Gb / s, indicating that a single 50G PON port can meet the backhaul access requirements of nearly 40 5G small base stations, which is nearly 5 times higher than 10G PON access capacity.

Second, low latency capability through single-frame multi-Burst technology and distributed multi-plane switching architecture innovation, comprehensively optimize access delay to less than 250us (performance improvement of nearly 3 times), high-precision clock synchronization technology provides time accuracy better than ±50ns (performance improvement of nearly 100%), and can guarantee 5G broadband and cable broadband and other integrated service access.

Third, the high power budget is based on the oDSP adaptive equalization compensation technology innovation, the output power and sensitivity are better than the ITU-T Class N1 standard (29dB), in the industry leading level.

China Mobile said that the success of the symmetrical 50G PON test verified the technical scheme and performance of 50G high-speed burst and high-power budget optoelectronic chips, made a technical reserve for later commercial use, and realized 10 Gigabit ubiquitous access to the computer network service.

It is worth mentioning that in February this year, Huawei launched the industry's first commercial 50G PON during MWC 2023. China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom and several European operators have all chosen 50G PON for deployment. Nokia is a proponent of 25G PON, while some service providers in North America and Europe prefer 25G PON.
