CTOnews.com, Nov. 16, Google Quantum artificial Intelligence (Google Quantum AI) has led a team to take a landmark step in improving quantum computing.
At present, one of the challenges in building reliable quantum computers is to solve the important defects of qubits (qubits): prone to errors in in-place inversion (bit-flip) and phase reversal (phase-flip).
At present, the industry is mainly promoting quantum error correction (QEC) to curb errors in bit flipping and phase flipping. Google said in its paper that through an in-depth study of its superconducting qubits (transmon qubits), it was found that the deeper cause of the qubit error was the leaked state (leakage states).
The leakage state will pollute the nearby bits in the quantum operation, especially during the widely used CZ gate operation, which leads to operation errors and hinders the execution of the algorithm.
To overcome this challenge, the researchers introduced a new quantum operation called Data Qubit Leakage Removal (DQLR).
DQLR specifically aims at the leakage state in data bits and transforms it into computational state (computational states) efficiently.
This process involves two bits-Leakage iSWAP, which is inspired by the CZ gate and then eliminates errors by quickly resetting the metric bits.
The study shows that DQLR significantly reduces the average leakage state proportion of all qubits, from nearly 1% to about 0.1%. Importantly, DQLR prevents a gradual increase in the leakage of data qubits observed prior to implementation.
The researchers stress that cleaning up leaks alone is not enough. They conducted quantum error correction (QEC) experiments, interleaving DQLR at the end of each cycle to ensure compatibility with the preservation of logical quantum states. The results show that the detection probability index has been significantly improved.
In addition, DQLR outperforms a method called "measuring leak removal" (MLR), which effectively reduces leakage while erasing stored quantum states.
