CTOnews.com, Nov. 16, Intel officially launched the first generation of core Ultra mobile processors codenamed Meteor Lake at the ON Technology Innovation Summit, and laptops with these processors will be available on December 14.

According to the up master @ Golden Pig upgrade package, the original Core Ultra processor does not seem to live up to expectations, so Intel has cancelled the P-Series, leaving only the H-Series.

It is said that this generation of H-series standard pressure processors will be divided into 28W and 45W, of which Ultra 5 and Ultra 7 are both 28W and 45W.

According to previous revelations, the original Core Ultra processor was originally divided into five product lines:

The 7W processor is the highest specification of 1 large core + 8 small core, and shows the highest 4Xe core.

The 9W processor is the highest specification of 2 large cores + 8 small cores and shows the highest 4Xe core.

The 15W processor is the highest specification of 4 large cores + 8 small cores, and shows the highest 8Xe core.

The 28W processor is the highest specification of 6 large cores + 8 small cores, and shows the highest 8Xe core.

The 45W processor is the highest specification of 6 large cores + 8 small cores and shows the highest 8Xe core.

The first batch of notebooks equipped with Core Ultra mobile processors are expected to be launched by the end of the year, and a large number of shipments are expected around the Spring Festival, so interested users can wait another month or two to buy new ones.

Intel said the Intel Core Ultra processor, codenamed Meteor Lake, was a turning point in Intel's client processor roadmap: it adopted a client-side core design based on Foveros encapsulation technology for the first time.

In addition to the significant improvements in the performance and power consumption ratio of NPU and Intel 4 process nodes, the processor also brings standalone graphics card-level performance by integrating Intel sharp graphics cards.

Thanks to the advanced Foveros 3D packaging technology, Meteor Lake adopts a separate module architecture, which divides the entire processor into functional partitions of computing modules, IO modules, SoC modules and graphics modules, bringing about revolutionary architectural changes in Intel client SoC in the past 40 years.

The processor uses a 3D high-performance hybrid architecture consisting of performance cores (Redwood Cove) and energy efficiency cores (Crestmont) and low power efficiency cores. Intel says it has achieved an excellent energy consumption ratio in the history of PC processors and integrated neural network processing units (NPU) into PC processors for the first time, accelerating the popularity of artificial intelligence. Brief introduction of 4 unique modules of Meteor Lake attached to CTOnews.com:

Computing module (Compute Tile): uses the latest generation of energy efficiency core and performance core micro-architecture and enhanced functions. The module adopts a new generation of Intel 4 process technology, which has made great progress in energy consumption ratio.

SoC module (SoC Tile): innovative low power island design, integrated with neural network processing unit (NPU), brings energy-efficient AI performance to PC, and is compatible with standardized program interfaces such as OpenVINO, which is convenient for AI development and application popularization. The new low power consumption energy efficiency core further optimizes the balance between energy saving and performance. The SoC module also integrates a memory controller, media codec processing and display unit, and supports 8K HDR and AV1 codecs as well as HDMI 2.1 and Display Port 2.1 standards. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also supported, including Wi-Fi 6e.

Graphics module (GPU Tile): this processor integrates Intel's sharp graphics architecture and provides independent graphics-level performance in integrated graphics cards, supporting RayTracing and Intel XeSS. With the jump in graphics capabilities and higher energy efficiency performance, Meteor Lake is able to provide excellent performance per watt.

IO module (IO Tile): contains industry-leading connectivity and integrates Thunderbolt 4 and PCIe Gen 5.0.

Among the Meteor Lake series processors, Intel introduced a low-power computing island for the first time, with dual "low-power energy efficiency cores" (Low Power E-cores) built into it, which is suitable for light loads. The low power island design is located in the SoC module (SoC Tile) of the new generation processor, with two new low power efficiency cores built into it to further optimize the balance between energy saving and performance.

In addition to IO Complex, the part of Intel SoC module is named low power island, in addition to low power E core, there are media module, display engine, NPU, IPI and other components.

The kernel display of this series of processors will be a bright spot. According to officials, the graphics module (GPU Tile) of Intel Core Ultra 1 mobile processors integrates Intel's sharp graphics architecture, which is the size of the 8Xe core, and is said to be able to provide independent graphics-level performance in integrated graphics cards, supporting ray tracing and Intel XeSS, doubling performance per watt.

In addition, the new generation of nuclear display has a higher frequency, and the frequency at the same voltage can directly impact above the 2GHz. The new kernel display is also optimized for DX12U to support frame doubling and the new feature "Out of Order Sampling".
