CTOnews.com, Nov. 15, Apple announced today that the satellite emergency service for existing iPhone 14 users will be extended for an additional year free of charge. Apple initially offered free service for new iPhone 14 users for two years after the device was activated, which was scheduled to expire in November 2024.

Apple said the technology, which is now available in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 series in 16 countries, allows users to send emergency service messages via text messages when they are outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.

CTOnews.com found from the small print of Apple's official press release that the free trial period will be extended for iPhone 14 users who activate devices in countries that support emergency calls by satellite before 12:00 Pacific time on November 15, 2023. In other words, this extended benefit is only for regular users.
