World aerospace powers have developed Martian atmospheric models to provide meteorological environmental protection for landing site selection and scientific exploration. However, there is no self-developed Martian atmospheric model in China.

According to a CCTV news report, Tuyuan Pexels, recently, the Mars research team of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has expanded its application to the Martian atmosphere based on the independently developed dynamic framework of high-resolution atmospheric models, successfully building a new generation of Martian atmospheric models, providing important scientific support for Mars exploration.

Unlike Earth, the Martian atmosphere is low pressure and low temperature, water vapor is very little, and dust is unpredictable. The research team used this model to simulate the cycle of three key meteorological elements, dust, water and carbon dioxide in the Martian atmospheric environment, and verified the performance of the model according to the observation results of the Mars rover Zhu Rong and the Viking 1 and Viking 2 of the United States, as well as the international global data set of the Martian atmosphere.

The results show that the new generation of Martian atmospheric model successfully reproduces the unique surface pressure of the Martian atmosphere recorded by Zhurong and so on. In addition, the model also has a good simulation effect on Martian surface temperature, zonal wind, polar ice and dust.
