CTOnews.com NASA has confirmed that Comet Pons-Brooks (12P/ Pons-Brooks) will pass by Earth again on April 21, 2024, after 71 years.

CTOnews.com Note: Comet 12P/Ponts-Brooks is a comet with an orbital period of 71 years.

Comet Ponts-Brooks was first discovered by Jean-Louis Ponts on July 12, 1812, and is also known as the "devil comet" because it has two angular structures of ice and gas.

Comet Ponts-Brooks is a giant comet, 10.5 miles in diameter, about the size of two Everest mountains stacked together.

Comet Ponts-Brooks was at a closest approach of 1.5 astronomical units (AU) when it passed by Earth, posing no harm to Earth.

Astronomical units are astronomical units of length, defined as the average distance between the Earth and the Sun. In August 2012, astronomers voted by secret ballot to fix the astronomical unit at 149597870700 meters.

Comet Pons-Brooks is currently heading towards Earth and will approach Earth closest on April 21, 2024, and is currently visible through telescopes and can be seen with the naked eye in good view that day.
