Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com November 14 news, after the YouTube channel Dave2D, another digital channel Gamers Nexus released a new video, a detailed disassembly of the OLED version of the Steam Deck game handset, and said that in addition to the screen from the LCD panel to OLED, the interior has also undergone major adjustments, it can be said to be a redesign.
Gamers Nexus said after disassembly that the OLED version of Steam Deck first significantly reduced the number of components and optimized the overall internal layout.
Reduce the number of components Valve confesses that the Steam Deck host on the IPS LCD screen is "too many parts" and needs to be optimized.
Valve said that when releasing the original Steam Deck, he was not sure the future direction of the handset. When developing the OLED version of Steam Deck, he collected a large number of comments from buyers and maintenance experts, and made improvements to the pain points.
You can see that the PCB board of the OLED version of Steam Deck looks more empty, and the inner layer of the PCB and the overall signal channel have not changed significantly. Valve said that to ensure memory efficiency, the circuit design between the processor and the RAM chip is the same as the LCD version.
First of all, the chip is the adjustment of the position of the chip, we can see that the chip of the OLED version of Steam Deck moves from the center to the right position, and the angle of the chip rotates 180 degrees.
Steam Deck OLED uses the updated 6nm semi-custom AMD APU with a Zen 2 computing core and graphics core based on the RDNA 2 architecture.
At the same time, the processor retains the technical features of the LCD version of Steam Deck. The size of the updated APU is 12.26x10.82mm, while the size of the 7 nm chip in the LCD version console is 13.5x12.3mm.
The second major difference between the memory subsystem OLED and LCD version of Steam Deck is the memory subsystem.
The LCD version uses four Meguiar D8BCW LPDDR5 memory chips, each with a capacity of 4GB and a speed of 5500 MT/s. The size of each chip is 15 × 12.4 mm.
The OLED version uses two Meguiar D8CZV LPDDR5 chips with a capacity of 8 GB, a speed of 6400 MT / s and a size of 12.4 × 7 mm.
Compared with previous modules, these high-speed memory modules have higher density and use more pin wires. It is worth noting that it took two months for Valve engineers to achieve this improvement.
VRM Power Subsystem component VRM Power Subsystem component follows APU and moves to the right side of the PCB board. In addition, the inductor and MOSFET are actually positioned away from the main VRM components, which reduces the impact of their heat generation on other components of the power subsystem.
The choke and MOSFET transistors in the OLED version of Steam Deck are now closer to the cooling fan and should theoretically improve cooling efficiency.
Heat sink + cooling fan the cooling fan rotates in the opposite direction. In the OLED version of Steam Deck, the heat sink is thicker and there are more heat sink fins.
The changes of the circuit board and the heat dissipation system are designed to increase the heat distribution area, improve the efficiency of the heat dissipation system, and reduce its noise under heavy load.
Rocker:
The manufacturer also changed some components of the console control, but the button layout itself did not change. Most importantly, the side trigger button is now integrated into the analog rocker board and is no longer located on the additional board of the Steam Deck.
Improve button workmanship: disassembly also found that Valve improved buttons to make clicks more reliable.
Touchpad module:
The radio module LCD version is equipped with an Azureware AW-CM42INF WiFi / BT radio master that supports Wi-Fi 5, while in the OLED version, it is equipped with a remote communications FC66E-B master that supports Wi-Fi 6e.
In the OLED version, the Wi-Fi master itself is no longer located under the SSD like the LCD version of Steam Deck, but is placed on the circuit board through a separate chip.
CTOnews.com attached here the OLED version of Steam Deck with the following improvements
7.4in 90Hz OLED customized Samsung screen (previously 7in 60Hz IPS LCD screen)
Support for displaying 110% DCI-P3 gamut (previously 67% sRGB gamut)
The peak brightness of HDR is 1000 Nit, and the peak brightness of SDR is 600 Nit (previously 400 Nit).
50Wh battery (previously 40Wh)
More efficient 6nm AMD "Sephiroth" APU (previously 7nm "Aerith")
6400MT/s memory (previously 5500MT/s)
Depending on the configuration, the weight can be reduced by up to 29 grams.
Bigger, quieter fan
Larger heatsink
Improved bass performance, louder speakers
The rocker is 1mm higher and wider, and the user experience is better.
Dark printing is used on the button
A higher fidelity sense of touch
Redesigned trackpad to improve fidelity and edge detection
Higher touchscreen polling rate of 180Hz
Support Wi-Fi 6e, through the newly supported 6GHz to achieve "2-3 times download speed"
