CTOnews.com, November 14, according to South Korean media Businesskorea, South Korean wafer-free AI semiconductor startup Rebellions signed an agreement with SEMIFIVE last week to start mass production of 5nm's AI chip ATOM next year.

SEMIFIVE is one of Samsung Electronics' Design solution Partners (DSP), which is responsible for mass production of this AI chip for data center using 5nm's EUV process.

CTOnews.com reported in February that the Rebellions ATOM chip was designed to run computer vision and chat robot artificial intelligence applications.

Rebellions co-founder and CEO Park Sung-hyun said that because the chip is aimed at specific tasks, not a wide range of tasks, it consumes only about 20% of the power consumption of the Nvidia A100 chip when performing these tasks.

ATOM is known for its industry-leading graphics processing unit (GPU) performance, which is 3.4 times more energy efficient than its equivalent neural network processor (NPU).

The performance of ATOM in the semiconductor chip performance competition Global Benchmark, which is 1.4 to 3 times higher than that of competitors such as Nvidia and Qualcomm, has aroused great interest.

Rebellions has also strengthened its cooperation with Samsung to develop the next generation semiconductor Rebel, specifically for large language models (LLM), which is being developed using Samsung Foundry's 4nm process.
