Global social media giant Meta surpassed TikTok for the first time in user growth in the third quarter of this year, according to the technology media Business Insider.

According to third-party platform Apptopia, in the third quarter, Meta's two trump card applications Facebook and Instagram, global downloads, daily active users (daily active users), monthly active users (monthly active users) and other key indicators all increased. On the other hand, TikTok, which has long been regarded as an "eyesore" by Meta, has fallen into stagnation in growth.

Over the past quarter, the number of Facebook daily active users has increased by 1.5 per cent and the number of monthly active users by 1.8 per cent, according to Apptopia. The number of daily active users of Instagram increased by 1.5 per cent and the number of monthly active users increased by 1.6 per cent. The performance was better than that of TikTok. The number of daily active users and monthly active users of TikTok fell by about 1%, while global downloads fell by more than 12% over the same period, which is much higher than that of Facebook and Instagram.

According to Evercore, another data firm, daily usage of Facebook and Instagram has been flat this year, while TikTok has fallen by 4 per cent over the same period.

"overall, user engagement in Facebook and Instagram continues to grow, close to record levels," Evercore wrote in the report.

In addition to the two trump cards, Meta's emerging business is also doing well.

In the fall of 2021, Reels, a short video product launched by Meta, has become an absolute rookie in the field of short video. Meta has said in the financial report that Reels is currently "income-neutral", that is, to achieve a profit from loss. Meta executive Adam Moseri (Adam Mosseri) also recently pointed out that Reels accounts for "about half of the time used by Instagram users."

Another new product of ‎ Meta is Threads, a social product that targets Twitter. Threads currently has about 33 million daily users and about 100 million monthly active users. Zuckerberg has said he is "very satisfied" with Threads and expects it to exceed 1 billion users as soon as possible.
