CTOnews.com learned from a press release that the purpose of the High performance Software Foundation is to use the U.S. Department of Energy's "very large scale Computing Project", joint ventures and a series of international projects to accelerate investment in HPC, so that industry, academia and government departments can work together to promote the development of HPC open source projects.

The Linux Foundation claims that it has benefited from strong support across the HPC sector, including companies and organizations such as Amazon Web Services, Argonne National Laboratory, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Nvidia, Kitware, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory and the University of Oregon.

In the future, the High performance Software Foundation will set up a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to govern various working groups with HPC as its theme, and will follow the governance model based on the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF).
