CTOnews.com, November 14 (Xinhua) in February this year, Ford signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with LG New Energy (LGES) and Turkey Ko ç Holdings to build Europe's largest commercial electric vehicle battery plant in Turkey.

At present, the plan has failed. They cancelled plans to produce electric car batteries in the region on the grounds that the current popularity of electric vehicles was not as fast as expected. Ko ç Holdings said, "now is not the right time to invest in batteries."

They also said they would "assess potential future battery pack investment based on developments in the electric vehicle market." Ko ç added: "Ford and Ko ç Holdings will continue to support the production of electric vehicles at Ford's Kojaeli plant in Otosan."

CTOnews.com found that the battery plant had planned to produce at least 25 GWh of batteries a year and was likely to expand to 45 GWh. Construction will start later this year and production will begin in 2026, they said.

Lisa Drake, vice president of Ford's electric vehicle industrialization, said the battery plant would lay a solid foundation for Ford to build a prosperous future of electric vehicles in Europe.

According to reports, Ford has been working with Ko ç for nearly 60 years, including the construction of Transit trucks through Ford's Otosan joint venture. As part of the partnership, it will start building E-Transit and electric vans for Volkswagen.
