CTOnews.com, Nov. 14, Apple held a "Fast coming" theme event on October 31, releasing M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, and launching new MacBook Pro and iMac products with these chips.

Foxconn has secured some orders for M3 MacBook Pro and iMac from Quanta, CTOnews.com reported, citing Jibang Consulting, indicating that Foxconn has entered Apple's high-end MacBook Pro supply for the first time.

It is reported that competition between Foxconn and Quanta for Apple's supply chain is intensifying. For Apple, it can better balance product orders and meet the diversified supply of devices.

Quanta has clearly felt the pressure of competition, with news that Quanta is accelerating new factory automation projects and relocating production facilities to reduce labour costs, hoping to regain its share of MacBook Pro and iMac orders.

Apple's Mac assembly suppliers are mainly Foxconn and Quanta. In the second half of 2022, Wentai Technology, a Chinese company, first entered Apple's computer assembly supply chain and initially won a small number of orders for MacBook Air products.

Although Wentai currently holds only a small number of orders, it will develop into a new rival to challenge Foxconn and Quanta in the future.

Quanta is popular with Apple for its technology-oriented approach and faces fierce competition from Foxconn, which is known for its high degree of factory management and production line automation.

Quanta's loss of some high-end notebook orders may be related to the minimum design difference between the new model with the M3 chip and its previous generation.

Their assembly, testing and packaging processes remain the same. As a result, as part of risk management, Apple adjusts the proportion of orders in its supply chain based on production and quotations from assembly plants. Material cost, labor cost and production-related cost are the main elements in the product cost structure. At the present stage, the labor cost in Shanghai is higher than that in Chengdu.
