Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens for the clues of sharing! CTOnews.com, November 14 (Xinhua) India is considering a five-year tax cut on the import of electric vehicles to attract companies such as Tesla to sell and produce cars locally in India, according to reports by the Economic Times of India and Bloomberg.
The Indian government is working on a policy to allow international carmakers to import electric vehicles at preferential rates on the condition that they promise to eventually build cars in India, according to people familiar with the matter.
Tuyuan Pexels, of course, the specific policy details are still under consideration and India has not yet made a final decision. The information came from insiders involved in the discussion of the rules, who chose to remain anonymous because the negotiations were currently confidential.
In 2021, Tesla called for a reduction in import tariffs on electric vehicles. The company wants India to reduce import tariffs on its vehicles from 100% to 40%, depending on the import value of its vehicles.
In addition, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is expected to meet with Indian Trade Minister Pius Goyar later this week to discuss imports and plant construction. Goyar is currently in San Francisco to attend ministerial meetings related to the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and APEC.
Their discussions are said to focus on the construction of Tesla's plant in India, which will produce $24000 worth of electric cars for India (CTOnews.com Note: about 175000 yuan currently). In addition, Tesla also plans to purchase more parts in India and lay out charging infrastructure across the country.
