CTOnews.com AMD today unveiled the new Radeon Pro W7700 workstation graphics card, claiming it is the most powerful workstation GPU available for under $1000. It sells for $999 (CTOnews.com notes: currently about 7293 yuan), and officials say its performance-price ratio is 1.7 times that of the Nvidia RTX 4000 Ada Generation SFF.

In addition to the improved price/performance ratio, AMD claims that the new graphics cards offer up to 52% performance improvement in Solidworks, 24% performance improvement in Creo, and 37% performance improvement in CATIA. However, these comparisons are based on the RTX 4000 Ada Generation, as well as the previous generation RTX A4000 and RTX A4500, so AMD may just be picking the best results for comparison.

AMD Radeon Pro W7700 features a Navi 32 mid-core with 48 CU compute units, 48 light-chasing accelerators, 96 AI accelerators, and 64MB of unlimited cache. It is also equipped with 16GB of GDDR6 ECC memory, using a 256-bit bus. The overall graphics card consumes 190W, which is more power than the RTX 4000 Ada Generation, not to mention the SFF model AMD uses for comparison. However, the new graphics card does offer higher performance, reaching 28TFLOPS (single precision), compared to 26.7 TFLOPS for the regular RTX 4000 Ada and 19.2 TFLOPS for the SFF model.

Another significant advantage of the AMD Radeon Pro W7700 over its competitors is connectivity, with four DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR 13.5) interfaces supporting very high-resolution displays. In contrast, Nvidia's competitors only support DisplayPort 1.4a. AMD Radeon Pro W7700 also supports AV1 encoding and decoding, which is standard on modern GPUs.

AMD Radeon Pro W7700 is available as a standalone graphics card starting today, and machines pre-loaded with the card will also be available starting this month.
