CTOnews.com, Nov. 13, according to South Korean media ETNews, industry insiders revealed that JD.com has begun to supply OLED screens to Apple's iPhone 15 standard edition. Although BOE's supply was a little later than Samsung display and LG display due to quality problems, it finally achieved its goal of entering Apple's iPhone 15 supply chain.

It is reported that BOE recently obtained the certification of the OLED panel of Apple's iPhone 15 standard model (6.1in) and began shipping it, which is expected to ship 2 million units this year.

BOE's supply is a little later than planned, and BOE was supposed to start supply in July or August, considering the release of the iPhone. However, due to quality problems, the certification was not passed, and the supply was delayed. BOE originally planned to provide OLED panels to the iPhone 15 (6.1in) and Plus (6.7in). The model that has been certified is iPhone 15, and the Plus model is expected to be certified within this year.

Previously, iPhone 15's OLED screens were provided by Samsung displays and LG displays. Samsung shows that it is responsible for supplying OLED screens to all four models, and LG display is responsible for both iPhone 15 Pro models. Specifically, the iPhone Pro and Pro Max use low-power cryogenic polysilicon (LTPO) OLED screens, while the standard and Plus models use cryogenic polysilicon (LTPS) OLED screens.

CTOnews.com noted that BOE entered Apple's supply chain at the end of 2020 and has been providing Apple with iPhone OLED screens. A person in the display industry said: "BOE repeats the same situation every year, that is, when the iPhone is released, it cannot be supplied at the initial stage because of quality problems, and it can only enter the supply chain at a later stage."

Stone Partners, a market research firm, predicts that 87 million iPhone 15 series will be shipped this year, while the supply of iPhone 15 OLED screens will be about 30 per cent higher than that figure to 115 million. Among them, Samsung accounted for 71%, Jing LG accounted for 26%, JD.com Fang accounted for 3%.
