CTOnews.com, November 13, according to the Nikkei News, Nikon will change the strategy of the semiconductor lithography business in order to revive its performance.

Dutch ASML, the industry's largest company, has 62 per cent of the global lithography market, with Canon second with 31 per cent and Nikon third with 7 per cent, according to Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities.

Reported that after more than 20 years, Nikon will launch new lithography machine products in 2024, by seeking to reverse the trend to develop the Chinese mainland market, in order to make a comeback.

Nikon expects consolidated net profit in fiscal year 2023 (as of March 2024) to fall 22% year-on-year to 35 billion yen (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 1.687 billion yuan). Semiconductor equipment-related precision machine business and camera imaging business are the two pillars, but in contrast to the strong sales of high-end micro-single cameras, precision machine business sales have been depressed.

Nikon and Canon dominated the market before the 1990s, but lost to ASML in the competition for the most cutting-edge extreme ultraviolet (EUV) devices, the report said. Extreme UV lithography will be put into practice in the second half of 2010, and only ASML can be produced in the world. On the other hand, Nikon's business resources are scattered in a variety of light sources, lack of strong areas.

In order to open up the situation, Nikon will launch new products of lithography machines using mature technology every 24 years in the summer of 2024. The older generation of light source technology, known as "I-line", which was practical in the early 1990s, is used to focus on the characteristics of power semiconductors that are suitable for manufacturing power semiconductors that require durability. Some analysts believe that Nikon will use general electronic components, and the price can be about 20% to 30% cheaper than Canon.
