The BCM4398 is the first Broadcom Wi-Fi 7 smartphone device to compete with the Qualcomm WCN7851 (FastConnect 7800) Wi-Fi 7 / BT 5.3 SoC and MediaTek MT6639 Wi-Fi 7 / BT 5.3 Combo SoC released earlier this year. The BCM4398 supports 2 × 2 MIMO 802.11 be (Wi-Fi 7), compatible with previous products and Wi-Fi 6max 6e, and includes dual-core BT 5.2radios. Broadcom released the second generation of Wi-Fi 7 devices, including BCM4390, in June 2023.
