CTOnews.com, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) Microsoft pushed an experimental survey pop-up window to some users between November 1 and 8, which will appear when users try to shut down the OneDrive cloud storage synchronization client. Due to user feedback, Microsoft has removed this pop-up window through server-side updates.

Previously, users found that an investigation pop-up window appeared when the synchronization client of OneDrive was closed. This pop-up window was added to Windows sometime in November, asking users why they turned off OneDrive. It is reported that this pop-up window appears every time the app is closed.

CTOnews.com notes that this pop-up window only reminds the user that if the application is closed, the files in the OneDrive folder will not be synchronized or backed up. But to the outrage of users, there is a drop-down menu in the pop-up window asking the user to choose the reason to turn off OneDrive. That is, unless the user selects a reason in the drop-down menu, OneDrive prevents the user from exiting the synchronization client. What is even more exasperating is that this pop-up window is not an one-time window, and it will appear again the next time the user closes the cloud client.

In a statement to Windows Latest, a Microsoft spokesman confirmed that they had withdrawn a "dialog box that temporarily appears in front of a small number of consumer OneDrive users" due to user feedback.

"when shutting down the OneDrive synchronization client between November 1 and 8, a dialog box temporarily appeared in front of a small number of consumer OneDrive users asking them why they closed the app," Microsoft said. "after sufficient user feedback was collected, this prompt was removed, which helped us to improve the quality of our products."

Microsoft has been pushing more people to use OneDrive, and this pop-up window seems to be part of that strategy. In the Windows 11 feature update, Microsoft also integrates OneDrive into the setup application and file explorer.
