CTOnews.com, November 12 (Xinhua) Italian die casting machine manufacturer IDRA has announced a partnership with Volvo and will install two 9000-ton Giga die casting machines at Volvo's plant in Slovakia.

CTOnews.com note: this kind of die casting machine is used in Tesla's vehicle manufacturing process, and has been adopted by Ford, Toyota and Geely. Previously, IDRA has supplied a number of 6000-ton die-casting machines to Tesla's Shanghai Super Factory, Berlin Super Factory and Texas Super Factory, while 9000-ton die-casting machines will be used in the production of Cybertruck electric pick-up trucks.

According to reports, Volvo's local plant is expected to install production equipment next year, which may include the two 9000-ton die-casting machines. Volvo said the plant would mass-produce a new generation of electric vehicles from 2026, with an annual production target of about 250000 units and thousands of local jobs.

Volvo announced last year that it would adopt Tesla's die-casting technology, initially at the Swedish Toslanda plant that produces Volvo's XC90, XC60 and V90 models. Mikael Fermer, the company's car platform architect, said last year that the shift to Tesla casting was "the biggest technological shift since we moved from wood to steel".

IDRA said that the die casting machine delivered this time is the size of a tennis court and can accurately and efficiently produce complex light vehicle parts and improve the performance and safety performance of the vehicle.
