On November 10, 2022, Tencent launched the Chinese character Guardian Program, hoping to use the power of the Internet to promote the protection of Chinese characters. After a year, the "rare character Collection" Mini Program participated in more than 25 million people, collecting a total of 16800 rare characters.

Screened by the Electronic Industry Standardization Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a total of 16800 rare words may be of practical or cultural value, but due to the lack of pronunciation, interpretation and use case support, more coding basis is needed to be included in the standard.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary, the first anniversary of the Chinese character Guardian Program, Tencent officially launched the "Jiuzi document" made by Tencent document form to collect more supporting materials for the 457 rare words.

CTOnews.com noted that of the 457 words, 328 were used for place names, accounting for 72%, and 66 were used for personal names, accounting for 14%.
