CTOnews.com, Nov. 11 (Reuters)-A Southwest Airlines executive revealed that the Boeing 737 MAX 7 will be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in April 2024 and will begin operation from October to November.

CTOnews.com noted that Southwest Airlines announced new orders for an additional 108 MAX 7 aircraft last month, which are expected to be delivered by 2031. However, the delivery schedule of the aircraft depends on FAA certification, which has forced it to convert dozens of MAX 7 orders to MAX 8.

"out of our internal planning, we assume it will be certified in April and then fly for us between October and November," Andrew Andrew Watterson, chief operating officer of Southwest Airlines, said in an interview on Thursday night.

However, he said the expected time includes a buffer period, and certification could still take place this year or early 2024, as Boeing is working with FAA to resolve outstanding certification issues and make progress.

FAA did not immediately comment, but repeatedly declined to comment on the timing of the MAX 7 certification, saying that "security determines the timetable of the certification program."

MAX aircraft was grounded worldwide after two crashes that killed 346 people in 2018 and 2019. Both MAX 7 and MAX 10 are awaiting FAA certification, and MAX 10 is expected to be delivered for the first time in 2024.
