CTOnews.com November 10 news, Dongfang Electric announced that the 18 MW direct drive offshore wind turbine, developed by China Dongfang Electric Group Co., Ltd. and China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., with completely independent intellectual property rights, was successfully offline today at the production base of Dongfang Electric Wind Power (Fujian) Co., Ltd., Fuqing City, Fujian Province. This is a direct-drive offshore wind turbine with the largest single unit capacity and the largest impeller diameter in the world.

According to reports, 18 MW direct-drive offshore wind turbines are a new generation of offshore wind turbines developed for offshore Class I wind speed regions. it is another major weapon of close cooperation and innovative development of offshore wind power innovation consortium between Dongfang Electric Group and China Huaneng Group. The key components of the unit, such as blades, generators, converters and transformers, have fully realized localization and promoted the coordinated development and technological progress of the entire wind power industry chain.

The blade matched with 18 MW direct drive offshore wind turbine is 126 meters long, adopts large thickness, blunt trailing edge and high performance airfoil independently developed by Dongfang Electric, and applies aerodynamic structure integrated design technology and bending-torsion coupling adaptive load reduction technology. a new carbon fiber extruded plate material and a new main beam structure are used to take into account both structural safety and economy.

The research and development of this model adopts the design of "active yaw anti-typhoon strategy + passive anti-typhoon structure". It can withstand a super typhoon of 80 meters per second and is suitable for a wide range of sea areas. At the same time, the E-top electrical scheme is adopted to solve the problem of cable twisting arrangement in the yaw system.

The industry of this model is the first to create a national integrated double-drive propeller system, which solves the problem of "neck jam" of the key core technology. The double-drive variable propeller has high safety, which can effectively improve the mechanical bearing capacity of the variable pitch drive of super large wind turbine and prolong the service life.

The iPACOM intelligent system independently developed by Dongfang Electric is the first intelligent control based on edge computing technology in the industry, which can identify and protect the working conditions that threaten the operation safety of the unit in advance. At the same time, the control parameters are automatically optimized according to the operating environment to optimize the power generation efficiency of the unit, and real-time tracking and early warning of the health status of the main components to prolong the service life of the key components.

The diameter of the impeller of domestic 18 MW direct drive offshore wind turbine is 260 meters. The unit is composed of more than 30,000 parts. The center height of the hub of the unit is 160m, which is equivalent to the height of a 53-story residential building, and the sweeping area of the wind wheel is more than 53000 square meters, equivalent to 7.5standard football fields.

When the unit is full, 38 kilowatt-hours of electricity can be generated per turn. Under the annual average wind speed of 10 meters per second, a single unit can output 7200 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity per year, which can meet the daily electricity consumption of 40, 000 ordinary households in a year. It can save more than 20,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 55000 tons.

CTOnews.com learned from Dongfang Electric officials that 18 MW offshore wind turbines will be mass produced and demonstrated for use in category I wind areas along the southeast coast.
