However, what many people did not expect is that even in the latest pure electric cars, an ancient battery technology has not been completely eliminated. This is the lead-acid starting battery. Today, due to cost, compatibility, procurement inertia and other reasons, many new energy vehicle manufacturers still use the lead-acid start-up battery of the fuel truck era.

So, you may see two batteries of different times in a state-of-the-art all-electric car. One is located on the chassis of the car, which is the "big battery", the power battery, which is rolled up to the extreme by the various batteries and main engine manufacturers, while the other, hidden in the corner, has almost no different "small battery" from the era of fuel cars, that is, the starting battery.

Therefore, many of the characteristics of lead-acid batteries in the era of fuel vehicles have been extended to the era of new energy. For example, easy to lose electricity, low life, need maintenance and so on.

Compared with lithium batteries, lead-acid batteries have a very short life, ranging from two to three years to three to five years, and need to be replaced once.

To make matters worse, when most car owners realize that they need to change the battery, they are often "cheated" by the battery. Until one day because of the battery, the car can not start, or even broke down on the side of the road, the car owner will not think of replacing the battery. A planned travel plan may fall through as a result. On average, it costs 400-600 yuan to replace the battery, which is very distressing for car owners.

Not only that, the volume of lead-acid battery is also a stubborn problem: generally, lead-acid battery has a large individual and takes up a lot of space in the car, which greatly limits the layout of the space in the car. In addition, the weight of lead-acid battery is generally more than 10 kg, which increases the energy consumption of the whole vehicle, which is also contrary to the goal of lightening the vehicle.

In addition, pollution is also a problem that can not be ignored: lead is an important raw material of lead-acid battery, which belongs to heavy metal elements. Once leaked in the production, use and recovery process, it will cause serious damage to soil, air and water sources.

Some manufacturers have put forward their own solutions to the problems of lead-acid start-up batteries.

First of all, lithium iron phosphate start-up battery has a long life, with more than 3000 cycles, which is equivalent to the same life as the whole vehicle. The battery does not need to be replaced for life, and it will not cause the vehicle to get into a nest, which saves users both worry and money.

Secondly, BYD is equipped with BMS battery management system for starting battery, which can realize real-time monitoring of battery index and dynamic management. When the starting battery is low, the power battery can charge it intelligently, so that the vehicle will not lose power after sitting for a long time, and the user can start the vehicle at any time.

Finally, lithium iron phosphate start-up batteries are lighter and more energy efficient than lead-acid storage. Lithium iron phosphate start-up battery has higher energy density. At present, it can achieve the lowest weight of only 2 kg. It has the advantages of lightweight and miniaturization, which is conducive to flexible vehicle layout and further reduce vehicle energy consumption.

In addition, lithium iron phosphate start-up battery also has more environmental advantages. As the first company in the world to install lithium iron phosphate start-up battery, BYD has applied the relevant technology for six years. At present, more than 2 million new energy vehicles are equipped with lithium iron phosphate start-up batteries, reducing lead by more than 20,000 tons, avoiding heavy metal pollution in more than 140000 mu of soil, being green, environmentally friendly, and protecting the health of the next generation.

In terms of cost, though, lithium iron phosphate starter batteries are much more expensive than lead-acid batteries. However, BYD still uses the more expensive lithium iron phosphate to start the battery regardless of the cost, only to completely solve the pain point of using lead-acid batteries. After more than a decade of research and development, BYD uses innovative technology to iterate over backward products, so that the startup battery will never "drop the chain" again.

In the era of fuel trucks, lead-acid batteries are commonly used as start-up batteries. After entering the new energy era, after more than a decade of research and development, BYD took the lead in using lithium iron phosphate battery to eliminate backward lead-acid batteries through technological innovation. This is a small step for BYD, and it will also promote the comprehensive reform of lead-free vehicles in China's automobile industry and promote the development of green and low carbon.
