CTOnews.com, Nov. 10 (Xinhua)-- Amazon has begun to cut jobs in its music division, affecting more than 27000 employees over the past year, Reuters reported.

Employees in Latin America, North America and Europe received layoff notices on Wednesday, according to people familiar with the matter. An Amazon spokesman confirmed the layoffs after being contacted by Reuters, but declined to say how many employees were affected.

"We have been keeping a close eye on our organizational needs and giving priority to the most important things for the long-term health of our customers and our business," Amazon said in a statement. " "some positions in the Amazon Music team have been cancelled and we will continue to invest in Amazon Music."

There have been no recent applications for mass layoffs in Washington, California or New York, one of the company's largest employee centers, according to a review of the worker adjustment and retraining notification website.
