This time, a shortage of drive motors led Volkswagen to announce that it would suspend production of electric vehicles at one of its German factories.

In detail, Volkswagen will suspend production at its Zvico plant in Germany for three weeks. Sources said that the suspension of production plans to affect Volkswagen's ID.4, ID.5 and Audi Q4 e-tron models, ID.3 will not be affected.

CTOnews.com note: Volkswagen, whose largest production base for electric cars in Europe is in Zwickau, announced in 2018 that it had invested nearly $1.3 billion in revamping the plant to produce pure electric models. The factory is the production base for three brands and six electric models of the Volkswagen Group.

At present, Volkswagen has four factories in Germany to produce electric cars, with the other three in Emden, Dresden and Hanover.

Before that, according to a German news agency reported in mid-September, people familiar with the matter had revealed that Volkswagen planned to cut temporary workers at its main electric vehicle plant in Germany because of a decline in orders for electric vehicles in Europe.

Sources said at the time that the company planned to let nearly 300 employees at the Zwickau plant leave when their contracts expired in October. The fate of about 2000 temporary workers remains uncertain, with about 10700 employees at the time.
