CTOnews.com, Nov. 9 (Reuters)-General Motors' self-driving unit Cruise announced that it will recall 950 cars after a driverless car knocked down and crushed a pedestrian last month, and more recalls are likely to follow.

The collision detection subsystem of the cruise autopilot system (ADS) software may react improperly after a collision, according to NHTSA documents.

Cruise said the recall involved a situation in which the software could cause the car to try to pull over rather than stay still after a collision. "this is not an ideal response after a collision." The company is currently looking for a chief security officer.

The company estimates that before the software update, a similar crash occurred every 1000 to 100m miles traveled on average and could result in heavy casualties.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Cruise announced late last month that it would suspend all self-driving car operations in the public domain, effectively ending the company's self-driving taxi business across California and Miami.
