Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, November 9 (Xinhua)-- our common nuclear, hydropower, wind and solar energy are all part of clean energy and can play an important role in tackling climate change.

According to previous reports by CTOnews.com, China's "Linglong No. 1" achieved a full capping of its internal structure on November 3. This marks the complete capping of the internal structure of the world's first land-based modular small pile, and the follow-up project will enter the peak stage of installation.

By contrast, the first small modular nuclear power plant planned in the United States was cancelled on Wednesday local time.

The small modular nuclear reactor is run by NuScale Power, while the Idaho National Laboratory helped build the first NuScale plant, the carbon-Free Power Project (Carbon Free Power Project,CFPP).

According to the plan, the national laboratory will maintain a small number of first reactors at the site, while some nearby utility companies will buy electricity from the remaining reactors. However, with the sharp decline in renewable energy prices, supporters of the project began to withdraw in large numbers.

The final trigger was yesterday when NuScale and Utah United Municipal Power system, the company's main utility partner, announced that the carbon-free power project would be cancelled without sufficient additional utility partners. Both sides agreed that "it seems unlikely that the project will have enough subscribers to continue to deploy."

John Hopkins, chief executive of NuScale, said: "our partnership with carbon-free power projects over the past decade has brought NuScale technology to the stage of commercial deployment; reaching this milestone is a huge success and we will continue to build on future customers."

However, none of the potential customers he mentioned has the ability to achieve it, and none of the projects are similar to carbon-free power projects, so it is not clear whether the company will be able to build a commercial reactor by 2030.

Of course, this is now the case for nuclear power in the United States, where the last few similar reactor plans have either been cancelled or severely over budget. Although some other reactor designs are considering separate projects, none of them has been approved by the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Commission.
