CTOnews.com, Nov. 9, Nintendo announced that it will postpone the completion of the new development center in order to continue to expand.

Last year, Nintendo successfully bought land near its Kyoto headquarters and announced plans to build a new development center there. The 10000-square-meter site, which Nintendo bought for 5 billion yen (CTOnews.com Note: about 242 million yuan), will be home to its new building, tentatively named Building 2 of the company's headquarters Development Center.

The building, originally planned to be 12 storeys high, will be completed in 2027. However, the Nikkei reported in August that Nintendo was considering delaying its completion date by a year or more and continuing to expand the center.

Nintendo confirmed the news after the release of its financial results for the second quarter of this fiscal year, with officials saying: "We initially announced that a 12-story building would be completed in 2027, but we changed our original plan and decided to expand the size of the building. As a result, it is currently planned to be completed in 2028. The second development centre will play an important role in strengthening our R & D capabilities."

The Nikkei News previously reported that Nintendo is expected to increase its staff in the long term, so it is considering adding additional floors in the building, thus delaying the completion date. Nintendo hired 130 fresh graduates in fiscal year 2023, a reported increase of 50 per cent from three years ago.

According to Nintendo's recent financial results, sales in the first half of the fiscal year were 796.2 billion yen (currently about 38.695 billion yuan), up 21.2% from a year earlier, while operating profit was 279.9 billion yen (currently about 13.603 billion yuan), up 27.0% from a year earlier.
