AMD revealed on GitHub that it has begun to phase out support for Polaris and Vega on Windows. In response, AMD responded to AnandTech by saying:

The AMD Polaris and Vega graphics architecture is already very mature, stable, and excellent in performance, and does not require frequent software adjustments.

In the future, AMD will provide critical updates to Polaris and Vega-based products through separate driver packages, including critical security and feature updates that are available.

This commitment is higher than what AMD classifies as a traditional product, and gamers can still enjoy their favorite games on Polaris and Vega-based products.

That is, although they will continue to receive Windows updates later, Polaris and Vega-based products will not get the same optimizations and new features as the new architecture GPU under these drivers.

In a statement to AnandTech, AMD claimed that Polaris and Vega would not benefit much from regular software adjustments because they were stable and mature.

Nevertheless, the company is committed to ensuring that both have access to critical updates related to functionality and security.

CTOnews.com query found that GCN was first unveiled in 2011, while Radeon 400 series graphics cards based on Polaris fourth-generation GCN architecture were released on June 29, 2016, and Vega-based graphics cards were released on August 14, 2017, with flagship Radeon VII available on February 7, 2019.
